Injured at work? Find NYS WCB Authorized Physicians specializing in CYTOPATHOLOGY that treat work-related accidents and illness.
Cytopathology is the study and examination of cells from the body. It is used to assist in diagnosing and finding the cause of disease. Cytopathologists obtain the cells from the body by way of scraping, washing, or sponging the surface. Most commonly known, the Pap test was the first cytopathology test that was developed. This test is used to identify cervical cancer.
Similar to a clinical pathologist, you may not interact with the cytopathologist, as they will examine the specimen and report finding to your primary care physician who discusses your treatment options with you. The specimen of cells is examined using a microscope where cytopathologists are trained to be able to recognize any cancerous conditions present in the cells.
