Injured at work? Find NYS WCB Authorized Physicians specializing in HEMATOLOGY that treat work-related accidents and illness.
Hematology is a branch of internal medicine that focuses on causes, treatments, and prevention of blood diseases. This field is also known as Haematology. The medical doctor that practices Hematology is known as Hematologist. The blood consists of many components such as cells, hemoglobin, proteins, bone marrow, and platelets, to name a few.
Some conditions Hematologist treats are hemophilia (a genetic disorder that prevents the blood from clotting), blood clots, cancers in the blood (leukemia, multiple myeloma, lymphoma), and other bleeding disorders. They tend to work in hospitals, private practice, laboratories, and cancer centers. A hematologist determines blood disease by the use of blood laboratory tests and visualization of blood under a microscope.
